SOCCO x Sierra Prescott "Pure Fun"

Posted by Carson Joyner on

Sierra Prescott personifies pure fun. From her groovy powerslides to rich photography, her uniquely creative spirit is undeniably contagious. Passion spills over in everything she approaches and it showed up in spades on her first signature SOCCO sock series. With the color blocked retro style, they are a slight departure from the standard classic three stripe SOCCO socks, and we couldn’t be more excited to share them with you starting October 3, 2019. Expect the same level of comfort, protection, and durability you’ve come to know and love from SOCCO, with an added dose of “Pure Fun”.

"Skateboarding is a whole lot of fun, and can be loved
at any level, anywhere and at any age."

Sierra Prescott - Photographer / Skateboarder - La Cañada, California

SOCCO is a big fan of your style in both skating and fashion. Where do you get your inspiration? From the 70’s and 80’s.

Those decades are when skateboarding really started to take shape, and the innovation was stunning. I love feeling like I’m from that era, from the way I dress to the way I skate.

What’s your perfect outfit for skating on a sunny afternoon in Venice?

Jeans and a t-shirt, good socks and sneakers. Classic versatility.

What are some of your all-time favorite spots to skate?

Definitely by the beach, something about the smooth concrete with sand splayed out, the ocean breeze, the salty air. It’s what skateboarding was born into and it breathes life into me whenever I’m near the coast.

With your first ever signature SOCCO sock dropping in October, tell us a bit about the origin of this amazing design and what appeals to you about wearing SOCCOs when you skate?

My idea was to have a more modern design with retro color ways. SOCCO’s are great because they’re thicker than a normal tube sock and have a heel cap for added durability and protection. They’re a solid skate sock.

Please tell us about your favorite trick

My favorite trick is a solid tie between a Boneless and a Bertslide. I love the connection to the board, reaching down and grabbing it, getting super low, using your hands and feet and using as much power in my legs as I can to jump as high and slide as long and smooth as I can. Pure Fun!

We’ve been following the progression of your amazing photography for a while now. How did you get started and what is your current equipment set up?

I’ve been framing things up since I was 5 years old, I’ve always had an interest in creating and capturing moments. I took a photo class in high school and went on to Brooks Institute to study commercial photography immediately upon graduating and have been working in this world since then. I’m definitely a Nikon shooter, the way the camera body’s balance perfectly in your hand, their sturdy design and the beautiful glass. I shoot primarily primes on a Nikon DSLR but do tend to have a Fuji Mirrorless with me too for some quick looks.

Beyond skating and photography, what else are you passionate about? And why?

Those are definitely my driving forces in life but a close runner up would be health and fitness. I love to cook, and I love to sweat— anything that really tests my core, balance and gives me the energy to go about my day feeling light and fulfilled. I’m primarily vegetarian and I take a lot of pride with what I put into my body. Cooking for myself 90% of the time keeps me happy :)

What legacy do you want to leave for the next generation?

That skateboarding is a whole lot of fun, and can be loved at any level, anywhere and at any age. Whether you want to aim for technical combos, stairs/gaps or simply just coast along the beach path, it’s all perfect.

Anything you’d like to say to all of the skaters out there?

Don’t ever stop.

Can you tell us about your upcoming book? (as much as you can/allowed )

Totally ! It’s been quite the project. The book will read much like a magazine, pages filled with girls and women from all over, all ages, differing styles and ranges of skill, all revolving around skateboarding. Each skater will be accompanied by photos and words, with additional side bars breaking down some facts and did bits on skateboarding. It’s meant to be a fun, inspiring read that can be picked up and put down and enjoyed :)
