Our groovy friend Tyler’s in Texas puts on an amazing Flatwater benefit for a cancer fundraiser every year. SOCCO got involved this year as a sponsor and made socks for the participants and sponsor gift bags. The beneficiary of the event is the Flatwater Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing those with cancer, their families and loved ones’ access to mental health therapy and family support. This includes access to both traditional and non-traditional psychological counseling.
“One cancer diagnosis can cause waves in all directions, affecting so many lives. We work to bring families coping with cancer back to calmer waters, so they can focus on navigating cancer, not the mental challenges of diagnosis.”
This was the 9th year of Tyler’s Dam that Cancer, which is a 21-mile paddle boarding journey from Mansfield Dam to Tom Miller Dam, in Austin, TX. This year over 200 people participated to paddle for a place and opportunity, for any and all who are affected by cancer to feel heard and supported. “My family battles multiple different types of cancers. Nobody really talked about it years ago, it’s so nice that it’s out in the world becoming a topic of conversation.” said a paddle boarder at this year’s race.
We are so stoked that SOCCO was given the opportunity by our friends at Tyler’s to get in on the action! Once we heard the mission of Flatwater Foundation and their goal to raise $700,000 at this event, we couldn’t stop ourselves from being a part. Not only that, but we got to get involved doing what we do best, making socks! We were able to put together a rad pair of custom “Dam that Cancer” socks to be given to every paddler. It was a nice way to say, “We’re here. And we support you during a time they may need it most.
